PACIFIC JAZZ 12” LP – NEW PJ SERIES
PART SEVEN - PJ-10121 / ST-20140

© James A. Harrod, COPYRIGHT PROTECTED; ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

The established practice of issuing albums in monaural and stereo versions ceases midway in this seventh group of releases in the new PJ jazz series.  Woody Woodward also dispenses with the mono and stereo numbering on the front jacket with the release of PJ-10126 / ST-20126 (THE NEW ONE - THE BUDDY RICH BIG BAND) with a “AUDITION - MONO LP - NOT FOR SALE” white label placed over the stereo designation and number on the jacket front. This practice would continue through PJ-10132 / ST-20132.  Several examples are shown below with the new design for the stereo only releases that commenced with ST-20133 (MERCY, MERCY - THE BUDDY RICH BIG BAND) with the nestled PJ logo replaced by the oval world symbol with WPJ (World Pacific Jazz) in its place.  The last three releases in this group are reissues of monaural recordings that were re-recorded to simulate stereo reproduction as noted on the modified label block.

Artists represented on this group of releases include: Victor Feldman, Roger Kellaway, The Don Ellis Orchestra, The Jazz Crusaders, Johnny Lytle, The Buddy Rich Big Band, Booker Ervin, The Mastersounds with Wes Montgomery, The Gerald Wilson Orchestra, Jean-Luc Ponty & George Gruntz, Wes Montgomery, Chet Baker, Clifford Brown and Gerry Mulligan.
